A 1989 US film, Dead Poets Society is a drama directed by Peter Weir and won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay. In the film written by Tom Schulman, Robin Williams plays the character of John Keating, a literature teacher.
Set in 1959, the film tells the story of John Keating, a successful literature teacher with a very different lecture style, and the events that take place at Welton Academy. He introduces his students, who are under pressure from their families to the magical world of literature and poetry, teaching them freedom, to understand life anew, and to look at the world from different perspectives. In doing so, he uses three golden keys, which are the three main symbols in the film: awareness, fullness and identification.
